He likes eggs. Likes a bit of peace and quiet too, which is why he works in The Purser’s Retainer, a pub with only one customer. But a new housing development over the road’s put The Purser’s under threat of closure and he’s going to have to find another job. Which means talking to people. Which is bad. People are irritants.

Murphy wants quiet. Solitude. Peace. He wants to watch the World Cup without distraction, gazing at football men on green fields in Russia. Is it too much to ask?

Maybe, but he has a plan. He’s going to save the pub and he’s going to watch the football too. How? By converting The Purser’s Retainer into London’s First Silent pub; a beacon of contented quiet and calm, with Tayto crisps and football on the screens.
